The GPS Treasure Hunt
1) The Safe!

Activity Outline

The activity is based on a guided 3.2km loop walk through Hepburn and the famous Mineral Springs Reserve. Your guide will provide a commentary. It is a non-strenuous, fun team challenge taking in significant natural, historical and architectural sights as well as sampling Hepburn's renowned mineral waters. In a forested section of the walk, participants' work in teams using hand held GPS devices to hunt for concealed marker posts, which will ultimately lead to - 'The Safe'!

How does it work?

The GPS Treasure Hunt entails up to four teams finding a series of three small, coloured wooden marker posts, assigned to that team along the forested section of the walk. The GPS unit will enable the teams to 'zero' in on their particular marker posts by providing them with the distance and direction to the marker posts, as shown on the graphic below.
Upon finding their marker posts, the teams face their next challenge; to unravel the combination of The Safe by answering a series of cryptic clues located at each marker post. Finally, teams must find The Safe itself and if they have successfully worked out the combination, can open The Safe and enjoy the contents. The activity concludes with a pleasant return walk via Hepburn streetscapes.

'Treasures' or treats can be attached to the marker posts as rewards for finding them, or alternatively, challenges such as themed quiz questions, discussion topics or instructions for group activities can be attached to the marker posts for the teams to discover as they find each marker post. We are happy to consult on individual requirements.

The Benefits

The Guided Walk and GPS Treasure Hunt (The Safe) is fun and enjoyably challenging activity that is quite unique. It fosters productive and positive conversations as problems are solved and new boundaries are explored in a mildly competitive structure. Collaborative skills are encouraged and innovative mix of technology, recreation and the natural environment promotes communication and awareness amongst new and established members of the group. This level is not designed to be strenuous and suits a wide range of ability levels. This activity is an ideal refresher for organisations and conference participants.
