The Blowhole Walk is rich in history and is located in the dryer, more gnarled Box forests near Old Hepburn.
Long sections of intact water channels, left by the gold miners, form winding paths that meander in and out of hidden valleys. Other examples of diggings can be found along the way. The ridge top section offers elevated views into Daylesford, with iconic Mt Franklin. (Lalgambook) over your shoulder. The approach to the Blowhole is above a deep gorge, and then comes to star of the show.
Created in the 1850s, goldminers created a tunnel through basalt to divert Sailor’s Creek to access the old creek bed for alluvial gold. It’s an impressive sight, especially when the creek is flowing well. Winter time high water may however, make it inaccessible.
